Family Medicine CenterThe Palmetto Health-USC Family Medicine Center is a family-oriented medical practice offering complete health care for children and adults, including obstetrical care for expectant mothers. Comprehensive care is provided by family physicians along with our certified diabetes educators, behavioral health specialists, and pharmacologist. Tucked into the heart of a residential neighborhood on the campus of Palmetto Health Richland, the Family Medicine Center combines the convenience of a community-based practice with the technology and resources necessary to treat a broad range of illnesses and injuries.

We understand that keeping people healthy goes beyond our role of diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses. That's why we put a strong emphasis on health maintenance, disease prevention, chronic disease management, and patient education through classes, lectures, and public service activities.

The Palmetto Health Family Medicine Center/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Department of Family and Preventive Medicine is the first primary care practice in South Carolina to be recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Level-III Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH)—the highest possible designation. The Patient-Centered Medical Home is a health care setting that emphasizes partnerships between individual patients and their personal physicians. The quality-focused model replaces acute illness care with care based on prevention, care coordination for chronic diseases, and a long term-healing relationship with a health care team that is centered on the needs of the patient and their family. NCQA recognizes practices that meet this designation nationally at three levels of activity and demonstrated outcomes. Primary care practices that receive a Level-III designation, like the Palmetto Health Family Medicine Center, must go through a rigorous assessment and review process.

    Behavioral health services include individual, marital and family therapy to help people adapt to mental, emotional, or relationship difficulties that are often present across the life span. Personal Performance Consultation (PPC) services are also offered. The purpose of this service is to help individuals, teams, and organizations achieve levels of optimal performance and reach their personally identified goals. The focus of performance consultation is the use of techniques and strategies that enhance mental and emotional performance skills.

Patient education and assistance by certified diabetes educators
Individual Sessions: Held each Tuesday morning and Wednesday.

  • Special care for those needing preparation for overseas travel
  • Procedural care, as indicated through health screening or ongoing care needs
    Skin biopsy, suturing, cyst removal, abscess drainage, wart treatment, etc.; IUD placement, colposcopy, endometrial biopsy, Implanon placement; stress testing; casting, splinting; nasopharyngoscopy; flexible sigmoidoscopy

What to Bring to Your Appointment  
Patients are asked to bring current insurance cards, a picture ID, names of routine medications, and status of immunizations (especially for well child care).

  • No-Show Policy
    If you are unable to keep your appointment, please contact us 24 hours in advance to avoid being a no-show. We do our best to see you in a timely manner when you come in for your appointment. Therefore, if you are more than 10 minutes late, we reserve the right to reschedule your appointment for another time.

    Walk-In Labs
    For your convenience walk-in labs are available between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 10:30p.m., Monday through Friday.

    Prescriptions Refills
    We offer a convenient prescription refill line for our patients. Patients are asked to leave a detailed description for our staff of the medication needed, as well as pharmacy information. Please allow 48–72 business hours to refill prescription requests. Medication requests will be handled during regular business hours Monday through Friday.     Billing and Insurance
    We accept most insurance plans. Payment is due when services are rendered. For your convenience we accept cash, checks and credit cards (sorry no Discover or American Express). It is your responsibility to fully understand your coverage benefits and to verify that we are listed as approved providers prior to scheduling an appointment with us.
