Risk-taking is a natural part of adolescence. To help adolescents see the consequences of their choices, Prisma Health offers Project READY: Realistic Education about Dying Young.

This reality-based education program exposes area youth to Prisma Health Richland Hospital's Level I Trauma Center.

Interested in attending an upcoming session? Registration opens six weeks prior to each Project READY session. Call 803-296-CARE (296-2273) to register. Registration is required to participate.

During a Project READY session, participants will:

  • View a real-life trauma video story
  • Receive injury prevention education
    • Talk with trauma surgeons
    • Participate in an interactive injury simulation (physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy)
  • Tour the hospital, including:
    • Emergency department (with a live model simulating a trauma patient)
    • Operating room
    • Intensive care unit
    • Morgue

In our interactive injury simulation session with adolescents, therapists will demonstrate paraplegia and quadriplegia, communication difficulties after sustaining a closed head injury, and daily challenges experienced by trauma patients.

Our program aims to give adolescents a clear depiction of trauma-related consequences sustained from risky behaviors.

This program is open to participants between the ages of 13–21 in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties.
