Helping with mental illness

In any given year, nearly one in five adults suffers from a diagnosable mental illness. Some people may be affected mildly, but some people may be affected more severely, with symptoms that become debilitating. We can help.

At Prisma Health Behavioral Care, we offer two inpatient programs to care for individuals needing 24-hour supervision and treatment, as well as treating patients on an outpatient basis. We provide treatment for individuals with a wide range of diagnoses including, but not limited to:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Psychotic Disorders

Inpatient treatment programs for adults

Affective Disorders Units on our campuses offer treatment for mood disorders such as depression or anxiety. The Crisis Stabilization Unit at Richland Springs offers the highest level of management for patients with the most severe mental illnesses, some of whom are experiencing symptoms for the first time and others who many have struggled with their illness for years. Treatment is led by a psychiatrist, and in conjunction with psychologists, nurses, counselors and social workers, they develop an individualized treatment plan for each patient. Treatment includes:

  • One-on-one sessions with the psychiatrist and other therapists
  • Group therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Activity therapy
  • Neuropsychological testing may be used to assist the psychiatrist in making a diagnosis or to assess a patient’s level of functioning

Outpatient treatment programs

Patients not requiring the 24-hour treatment offered in an inpatient setting can often find the support they need in our Day Treatment Programs. Outpatient programs may also be helpful for patients as they integrate back into their home after an inpatient stay.
