Palmetto Health is the only hospital system in the Midlands and one of the first in South Carolina to offer CardioMEMS™, a wireless device that allows our heart failure patients to monitor their pulmonary artery pressure from the comfort of home.
Palmetto Health is one of the first hospitals in South Carolina to offer CardioMEMS™. Learn more about how it’s helped one of our Lexington, SC, patients.
With CardioMEMS™, doctors can observe and proactively treat symptoms of worsening heart failure remotely. A sensor, implanted in a patient's artery, sends information wirelessly to our team at the Advanced Heart Health Center, serving Columbia, Lexington and the greater Midlands of South Carolina. Visits and admissions to the hospital can be significantly reduced, improving our patients' quality of life by using the monitor just a few times a week.
CardioMEMS™ utilizes a small, wireless sensor that is implanted in the pulmonary artery using a minimally-invasive procedure. The sensor, designed to last a lifetime, is a sealed capsule that uses microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology, ensuring stability and energy efficiency in measurements.
A portable external unit with a customized pillow allows patients to log pulmonary artery (PA) pressure readings from their homes across South Carolina and transmit the information to our team at Palmetto Health Heart Hospital in Columbia.
