Prisma Health is a founding member of the Diversity Recruitment Consortium (DRC), a collective group of organizations with the express purpose of implementing a model in which a fair picture of lifestyles in South Carolina is demonstrated through formalized initiatives and actions. Through collaboration, the DRC strives to communicate that South Carolina is a destination, not a pit stop. The Diversity Recruitment Consortium utilizes an Ambassador Network that provides access to a broad array of people with similar backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, offering robust and relevant information about South Carolina communities.
In 2017, Palmetto Health and Greenville Health System announced an agreement to partner to create a new, not-for-profit, locally governed health company designed to shape and lead the future of health care for all South Carolinians. Our new company, Prisma Health, aims to improve the patient experience, clinical quality and access to care, and address rising health care costs.

While remaining independent, five health systems across the state of South Carolina have joined forces in a health collaborative to create efficiencies and synergies that mitigate the rising costs of health care. A collaboration of Prisma Health, McLeod Health, MUSC Health and Self Regional Healthcare, Initiant enables its members to aggregate their efforts and expenditures to achieve savings, to explore deployment of clinical programs and services that will improve access to and quality of health care provided to patients, and to add value to its members, patients, and the communities it serves.
Prisma Health and the University of South Carolina created the Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group, a not-for-profit company that brings together physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care providers from two of South Carolina’s most respected organizations. The multispecialty, clinically integrated medical group is the Midlands region’s largest multispecialty medical group and the 11th largest employer in the Midlands.
The Prisma Health Midlands Network is a regionally recognized clinically integrated system comprised of more than 1066 physicians and four hospitals to drive targeted improvements in health care quality and efficiency. Since its inception in 2010, the network has been committed to increasing the quality of care patients receive by setting higher performance and quality expectations for participating physicians.
Prisma Health is a member of Premier, Inc., a healthcare performance improvement alliance. With a network of approximately 3,400 U.S. hospitals and 110,000 other providers, the Premier alliance works to create actionable data, best practices and cost reduction strategies.
Palmetto Health and Greenville Health System are becoming Prisma Health. We are building one organization with affiliates in two regions. Our parent company, now known as Prisma Health, supports both affiliates with overall direction and leadership as we continue to align. We will soon share one brand across the entire organization to better reflect this. The rebranded Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group will continue to operate as a joint venture between the Midlands affiliate and the USC School of Medicine.
A national leader in primary care medical education, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine also sponsors research focused primarily on South Carolina health care needs and provides a wide range of clinical care services to South Carolinians.
Clinical departments are located on the University of South Carolina School of Medicine campus and at Palmetto Health Richland.
As a major teaching and research institution, The University of South Carolina (USC) has long offered a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs through the doctoral level.
