MEDIA ALERT: Palmetto Health collaborates with Richland Library to supply every baby born in Richland County with a library card and a book during September

Posted on 8/31/2018

Local mom will receive a 12-month supply of books to kick-off the month

WHAT:        Thanks to funding from Palmetto Health, during the month of September, Richland Library is expecting to welcome hundreds of its newest and youngest readers into the world. The library will be supplying every baby born in Richland County with a library card and a book as part of the Growing Readers initiative.

The initiative, which also celebrates National Library Card Sign-Up Month, stresses the first five years of life are critical to a child's vocabulary and literacy development. Attached to the library card, parents can find early literacy tips.

Palmetto Health is excited to be involved with focusing on the importance of early literacy and reading to children. Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital is a sponsor of the Reach Out and Read Program that gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital also is the presenting sponsor for the Fireflies Reading Program, which incentivizes children for reading.

Come celebrate as a local mom receives a gift basket, filled with a 12-month supply of books and baby goodies to kick-off the month as she celebrates her new arrival.

TIME:               TBD

WHERE:           Palmetto Health hospital

WHY:               Palmetto Health is happy to collaborate with Richland County Library because they both share a common goal of promoting early literacy and its importance in academic achievement and lifelong learning.
