Yesterday, the Tuomey Healthcare System Board of Directors in Sumter, S.C., voted to enter into exclusive negotiations with Palmetto Health with the intent to ultimately come together as partners. This decision is the first step toward the two health care systems aligning, to continue providing quality health care to their communities that are so near one another.
“We believe that Tuomey Healthcare System will be an excellent partner for Palmetto Health. First and foremost, our cultures are highly complementary, with a shared focus on the patient and commitment to providing high-quality care. We are in close proximity to each other, and we have enjoyed a strong relationship with the Tuomey staff and physicians through the years,” said Charles D. Beaman, Jr., chief executive officer, Palmetto Health.
“The need to collaborate in health care today has never been greater. The opportunity to partner in a new way with the outstanding team at Tuomey Healthcare System is truly unique. Tuomey is a long-standing, excellent health care organization that believes the residents of Sumter County deserve the very best in health care. We are excited about how a partnership between Palmetto Health and Tuomey Healthcare System will benefit our respective communities in new ways, and reinforce our commitment to delivering quality health care to our patients,” Beaman added.
Details of the potential partnership will be negotiated between the two organizations. The final decision to align the two organizations will require regulatory approval, as well as approval by the governing bodies over both systems.
